Beartooth Bullets now offers its own bore-lapping compound for fire-lapping barrels. This product is specially formulated specifically for the fire-lapping process, and is a laboratory grade 320 grit silicone carbide abrasive, in a specialized grease mix.For many years Beartooth Bullets has marketed the Clover Brand lapping compounds for the purposes of fire-lapping barrels. However over the last several years Clover Corp. has been purchased by a couple of different companies. First they were bought out by the Fel-Pro Corporation, the makers of automotive gaskets, and then a couple of years ago it was again purchased, this time by the Loc-Tite Corporation.
Late last year, Clover Brand lapping compounds were discontinued in the retail, consumer size quantities that had been available for so long. In fact, at this time these compounds are not available to our knowledge.
There is a persistent demand for high-grade, laboratory quality silicone carbide lapping compound in a grease mix for the purposes of fire-lapping rifled barrels, and in response to that need, Beartooth Bullets is now manufacturing their own bore-lapping compound.
This new product effectively replaces the traditional Clover Brand lapping compounds previously used for the purposes of fire-lapping, and surpasses the performance by employing a lubricant to carry the abrasive which much better lubricates the lapping bullet in the bore of a barrel, thus eliminating leading entirely at proper lapping speeds. This bore-lapping compound is exclusively manufactured and marketed by Beartooth Bullets.
